Student Mail’s After-Hours Package Locker Expansion Delivers

This Spring, Columbia Mail installed new smart lockers in Carlton Arms, Schapiro, and Lerner Hall – in addition to the lockers already in place in the lower level of Wien Hall and the John Jay lobby. The new lockers became available for use on March 10 and have seen significant traffic since they came online.

Columbia Mail’s new after-hours locker banks expanded students’ access to packages outside of regular service hours, with a focus on convenience for students that live on the south and west sides of campus – those buildings furthest from the Student Mail Center in Wien Hall. The lockers are intended for critical needs such as medication, items of high value, heavy packages, and perishable items. The locker banks also feature photographs of student life at Columbia – some of them submitted by student photographers.

Since the lockers became available on March 10, they were used more than 850 times. The lockers already in place at John Jay and Wien continued to see significant use with a total of 1,452 requests.

Combining the new and legacy lockers, the grand total is 1,452 locker reservations this spring!

Students can submit a locker request through Columbia Mail’s online portal, where they can choose their preferred location. If there are no lockers available at that location, the Columbia Mail team will choose the next closest location. For more details on when and how to use the after-hours lockers, visit this page
